Proportions

First, we all agreed in class discussions that proportions of an object are based on a person's ability to observe said object in its contextual surroundings. (i.e. smallest man, tallest woman) Secondly we agreed that in built objects: furniture, product design, and buildings, the most effective proportions are those that relate back to the human body. So why are the golden rectangle and Fibonacci Spiral so often used in architecture? I guess the bigger question is are proportions only important from an aesthetic point of view, or also from an experiential point of view?

Identity Theft

There is no denying the fact we're moving farther into the age of digital design and production. Do you agree with class discussion that there will continue to be a decrease in the "author's identity"? How do you suppose we bring the passion of handcrafted workmanship into the digital world?

green v. local

As per class discussion on "green" vs. local design, which do you feel would have more of an impact on our economy / ecology. The move to design green buildings/ products has become a major trend for architects and consumers. Do you think it is even likely that the same will ever be said of designing locally? Do you feel that either green or local design could move past just being a trend and become a standard for all design?

Why We Hate Us

In Dick Meyer's book " Why We Hate Us: Americans Discontent In The New Millennium" part of the problem with the 21st century in America is based on social networking sites, and more importantly, everyone's sudden need to market themselves. Aside from the class discussion on Virtual Reality, do you, personally, feel that this aspect of technology will have any impact on the world of architecture?
